Permissions & Access

Everyone sees exactly the right thing.

Access is set by the positions a member holds — not by hand-editing accounts. Hand your youth leaders real responsibility to run the troop while adults keep the final say, let parents see their own scouts, and sign in without the password headaches.

Set it once, from the positions you already assign

🛡️

Position-based access

Roles drive abilities — no per-account fiddling.

  • Each position sets what a role can view or change across ten areas, on a 0–5 scale
  • New troops start with sensible defaults, not a blank slate
  • Share one role across several people — split advancement chair three ways, or overlap a treasurer with their successor

In Scoutbook Plus: Scouting America registration caps each role at a single holder — you can't split advancement chair across volunteers or run two treasurers through a handoff.

🗂️

A real permission matrix

See and adjust exactly who can do what.

  • A full editor by position and category, with an effective-permissions viewer and history
  • Group updates to change many positions at once
  • Approval-tier overrides let you customize who approves which requirement

In Scoutbook Plus: each position's core permissions are fixed (published as a PDF chart) with on/off add-ons — not a per-troop matrix of graduated levels you fully control.

🧒

Give scouts real responsibility

Youth-led, adult-supported — the way Scouting is meant to run.

  • Youth leaders (SPL, PL, and other positions) get genuine authority — take attendance, manage their patrol, drive the agenda
  • Every youth role is capped below the adults, so leadership keeps the final approval
  • Tune it down to the requirement — let scouts sign off most things, but reserve safety-related ones for an adult

In Scoutbook Plus: scout permissions are set one scout at a time — there's no "patrol leaders get X" — and a rank sign-off can't carve out its safety-related requirements.

🔓

Modern, painless login

Get in the way that suits each member.

  • Username or email with a password, a one-tap emailed magic link, or a passkey (face / fingerprint)
  • Self-service password reset by email
  • Remember-me session management: see and revoke your active sessions

In Scoutbook Plus: sign-in is a my.scouting username and password — no passkeys or magic links.

🛠️

Account admin & support

Manage members and troubleshoot without guesswork.

  • Lock, reset, or deactivate an account from the member's record
  • Impersonate a member (for support) to see exactly what they see
  • Each troop is fully separate — someone in two troops has two independent logins

In Scoutbook Plus: no leader-side "view as this member" to reproduce what someone sees.

↩️

Hardened — and reversible

Security behind the scenes, plus a safety net in front.

  • Rate limiting, session management, and an audit log of logins and record changes
  • One-click Undo / Ctrl-Z across the whole app, built on that audit log
  • A wrong change is recoverable, not permanent

In Scoutbook Plus: no app-wide undo — a mistaken change just stands.

See the whole picture

Every troop's data lives in its own isolated space — access never leaks across troops.
